Leadership

For 37 years, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has ruled with an iron fist, crushing protest and stifling democratic opposition. Against this backdrop, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu—better known as Bobi Wine—rose from Kampala’s dance halls as a celebrated pop star. As he witnessed the injustices around him, his music shifted from party anthems to rallying cries for freedom. That journey drew him into politics and ultimately to the helm of Uganda’s opposition movement. Despite police beatings, disappearances, house arrests, and the murders of close allies, Bobi Wine continues to stand at the forefront of the struggle for democracy. "Bobi Wine: A Dream of Democracy" is part of the Leadership in Action series, a collaboration between Bertelsmann Foundation Documentaries and the Aspen Institute.
